A Difficult Meeting After A Strange Finish
Washington Commanders coach Dan Quinn met with owner Josh Harris after Sunday's overtime tie with the Giants. Quinn said Monday that no one is happy with the game's botched final sequence or the team's 1-3-1 record. When asked if he was worried about his job security, Quinn said he knows how the league goes.
Trust me, no one is pleased with this outcome and where we're at, Quinn said of his latest meeting with Harris. There are no plans to make any coaching change. Still, a poor start following a 5-12 season has brought heavy questions only two years after Quinn guided the team to the NFC Championship Game.
What Went Wrong On The Final Play
The questions grew louder because of what happened at the end of overtime. Washington reached the Giants' 24-yard line with 50 seconds remaining and the score tied. The offense did not snap the ball again until 12 seconds remained. With no timeouts left, quarterback Jayden Daniels scrambled and was tackled with eight seconds to play.
Players were slow to get off the ground, and Washington ran out of time to spike the ball. Quinn said offensive coordinator David Blough called the play, but he is ultimately responsible. All of that comes through me, Quinn said. The issue, according to Quinn, was the team trying to do too much. They subbed in players and took too much time.
