Offense stalls in loss to Green Bay

The Dallas Cowboys dropped to 2-4 on the season after losing 23-13 to the Green Bay Packers. The defeat comes right after a 24-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dallas has now scored just 29 points over its past two games.

The offense failed to score in the first half for the first time since Week 9 of the 2021 season against Denver. Quarterback Dak Prescott threw two first half interceptions for the first time since Week 17 of the 2022 season against New York. He finished with 258 yards on 34 of 54 passing, averaging 4.8 yards per attempt.

Prescott connected on only 15 of 29 passes targeting CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. Both turnovers came on throws intended for Lamb, who slipped on his route prior to the second interception.

Lack of running game creates problems

Dallas returned every offensive starter from last year, including 2025 Pro Bowlers Prescott, Lamb, Pickens, guard Tyler Smith, and tight end Jake Ferguson. Offensive coordinator Klayton Adams noted last week that the group was still searching for its identity. Despite that talent, the unit is struggling to move the ball.

Against Green Bay, the Cowboys managed only 48 rushing yards on 15 carries. It was the fifth time in six games that the team failed to reach 100 yards on the ground. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer stated that the lack of a running game makes the offense a little bit one sided. He added that the team must find balance to succeed.

In the Super Bowl era, Dallas has never made the playoffs after starting a season with a 2-4 record.

Prescott takes hits as team looks for fixes

Pass protection was another issue for Dallas. Prescott suffered a hit to his ribs from Zaire Franklin in the first half and was pressured on 21 of 41 dropbacks in the second half. Prescott noted he was sore after the game, though he stated he would not need extra testing.

Efforts to fix team issues have not yielded results yet. The team added Mike Pettine as a senior defensive assistant to support coordinator Christian Parker, and players held a players only meeting. Tyler Smith stated after the game that the team needs to look inward, fix mistakes, and focus on winning each week.
