Slow start for Dallas
The Dallas Cowboys sit at two wins and four losses after six games. Nobody inside the team expected this poor start when they left training camp in Oxnard, California. The defense is letting in too many points, while the offense has struggled for consistency despite bringing back almost every starter from 2025.
Dallas lost 32-13 to the Green Bay Packers last Sunday. Quarterback Dak Prescott admitted that players in the locker room might be the only ones who still believe in the group. The Cowboys had three straight 12-5 finishes from 2021 to 2023. However, since losing 48-32 to Green Bay in the 2023 wild card round, Dallas has a record of 16-23-1. Only seven starters remain from that previous team.
Upcoming fixtures offer hope
Five of the next six games for Dallas are against opponents with a combined record of 9-21. Their next match is against the Philadelphia Eagles, who are also 2-4. The Eagles will be without quarterback Jalen Hurts, who was ruled out for the rest of the season due to blood clots in his lungs. Dallas plays Philadelphia twice during this run, with the second game taking place on Thanksgiving.
Other matches include the 2-4 Arizona Cardinals on November 1, the Indianapolis Colts on November 8, and the 1-5 Tennessee Titans on November 22. The Colts fired general manager Chris Ballard on Monday. Only the San Francisco 49ers, who visit AT&T Stadium on November 15, have a winning record at 6-0. Cornerback DaRon Bland said he must focus on what is happening inside the team rather than outside noise.
Defense changes and offensive struggles
Dallas recently added Mike Pettine as a senior defensive assistant to help coordinator Christian Parker. Against Green Bay, the defense got its first interception of the season and recorded three sacks. However, they allowed 11 third down conversions and seven pass plays of 15 yards or more.
The offense has managed only 29 combined points across the last two matches. Coach Brian Schottenheimer stated that the team has great trust in the offense, adding that execution issues fall on players and coaches. Left guard Tyler Smith noted that the only solution to their struggles is to correct mistakes, stay consistent, and win games.
