Dallas Cowboys Attack Stalls as Offense Fails to Deliver

The Dallas Cowboys are struggling at three wins and five losses as their star offense fails to live up to summer promises.

Promises Unfulfilled in Frisco

The Dallas Cowboys entered 2026 with high hopes for their attack. Quarterback Dak Prescott talked about building the Greatest Offense There Is during the summer. However, after eight games this season, Dallas has three wins and five losses.

While the defense has dealt with personnel changes under new coordinator Christian Parker, the offense returned every starter from 2025. Team owner Jerry Jones made it clear that the offense was supposed to carry the squad during this rebuilding phase on defense. Instead, the unit has stalled when needed most, including late in losses to Baltimore, Arizona, Green Bay, and Tampa Bay.

Numbers Drop Across the Board

The statistics show a clear decline from last season. Dallas is averaging 342 total yards per game, down from 391.9 in 2025. The passing game has dropped from 266.3 yards per game to 247.9. Big plays have also dried up, with passes of 20 yards or more falling from 3.3 per game to 2.6.

Individual production has suffered too. Receiver George Pickens managed 43 catches for 685 yards and six touchdowns through eight games last year. This season, he has 39 catches for 533 yards and two scores. Tight end Jake Ferguson has just 17 catches for 115 yards while fighting an ankle injury, down from 51 catches and 334 yards at this stage in 2025. Running back Javonte Williams has posted over 75 rushing yards in only two games, compared to five such games in the same stretch last year.

Motion and Running Game Slump

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer wanted to use motion to confuse defenses, but those numbers have dropped sharply. The Cowboys rank last in the league for motion at the snap at 24.8 percent. The ground attack ranks 25th, averaging just 94.1 yards per game. Even with left guard Tyler Smith returning after missing four weeks, the team has averaged under four yards per carry in three of the last four games. Center Cooper Beebe admitted that the run game performance is disappointing.

Blitzes have also plagued Prescott. The Cardinals sacked him four times, and Dallas has managed only two touchdowns against the blitz all year. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb expressed his frustration, noting that the team keeps stopping itself. Dallas gets a chance to turn things around this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, who have two wins and six losses.
