Trade talks heat up for Joey Porter Jr
Several NFL teams, including the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions, have inquired about trading for Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. The Steelers are open to listening to trade offers. However, they want a strong compensation package before they let the fourth year star go.
Porter is currently looking for a new contract. The Steelers do not negotiate new deals during the season, which has raised questions about his future with the team.
Defensive struggles spark trade interest
Dallas has worked hard to rebuild its defense over the last 13 months. They traded for Quinnen Williams, Rashan Gary, and Kenny Clark, and used first round draft picks on Caleb Downs and Malachi Lawrence. Still, the Cowboys are short on cornerbacks. Starting cornerback Cobie Durant is out for the Week 3 game against the Baltimore Ravens with a hamstring injury.
The Lions also need help in their secondary. Detroit has allowed the second most passing yards in the NFL over the first two weeks of the season. They are missing safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph, who are on the PUP list. Cornerback Avonte Maddox is also out for the season with a foot injury.
Porter recovery and contract status
Porter has not played yet this season because of a back injury. He is working his way back but remains questionable for the game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He was limited in practice this week.
Porter said on Thursday that he definitely would play for the Steelers in 2026 even if he does not get a contract extension. However, he did not say for sure if he would play in the upcoming game against the Bengals.
