Coventry End Long Wait For Premier League Win
Coventry City have finally got their first Premier League win in 25 years. Frank Lampard's side secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory away at Nottingham Forest. The win brings an end to a difficult four-game losing streak for the newly-promoted team.
Jay Dasilva scored the only goal of the match in the second half. Nottingham Forest thought they had snatched a late draw when Igor Jesus scored, but the equaliser was controversially ruled out by VAR.
Lampard Praises Team Work Ethic
Manager Frank Lampard was full of praise for his players after the final whistle. He explained how hard it is to stay positive after losing the first four matches of the season.
Lampard said that it is easy to feel negative and wonder where the next goal or win is coming from. He added that in football you have to fight and work for it, and have good organisation. He felt his players deserved the bit of luck they got with the VAR decision because of how hard they worked during the match.
Building Premier League Experience
This Coventry squad does not have a lot of top-flight experience. In fact, only three players in Saturday's starting lineup had ever played in the Premier League before this season.
Lampard noted that many of his players are playing in the Premier League for the very first time. He said that not everyone is a superstar like Wayne Rooney who can just own the stage immediately. Instead, these players have worked incredibly hard throughout their careers to reach this level.
Newcastle Test After International Break
This victory gives Coventry a massive boost as they head into the three-week international break. It gives the squad time to rest and build on this performance.
When they return to domestic action, Coventry will host Newcastle in their next match. Lampard will hope his players can show the same work ethic to get another big result at home.
