Elbow Operation and Expected Return
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll underwent surgery on his right elbow this week. The procedure was carried out to remove loose bodies in his elbow. The Diamondbacks officially confirmed that the surgery took place on Friday.
A full recovery from the procedure is expected to take around eight weeks. With that timeline in place, Carroll should be ready to take part when spring training officially starts in February.
Fighting Through Multiple Injuries
The elbow operation follows a year in which Carroll had to battle through multiple health problems. Before the regular season started, he had surgery on his hamate bone. That injury caused him to miss a large portion of spring training.
Later in the year, he was forced to manage additional physical pain. Carroll suffered from back soreness during the final few months of the season. That soreness played a role in his second half struggles, which came after he started the season in strong form.
Production Despite Physical Troubles
Despite playing through those injuries, the 26 year old managed to finish the year with impressive statistics. Carroll ended the season hitting .239 with 22 home runs and 78 RBIs.
He also accumulated 33 doubles and finished with 17 triples, which was the highest total in the league.
Key Player for Arizona
Carroll has been one of the most important players for Arizona since his standout 2023 campaign. He won the National League Rookie of the Year award that season while helping lead the Diamondbacks on a surprise run to the World Series.
The three time All Star has continued to earn major honors. Earlier this month, he was awarded his first Gold Glove for his defensive work in right field.
The team will hope he stays on track during his eight week recovery so he can be fully prepared when camp opens in February.
