Flagg exits early in Indianapolis
Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg was sidelined during the second half of Friday night's game against the Indiana Pacers. The forward suffered left shoulder soreness following a hard fall late in the first half.
Despite losing Flagg for the rest of the match, Dallas went on to secure a 121-105 win over Indiana. Last season's NBA Rookie of the Year had already put together a solid performance before his night came to an end, recording 14 points, six assists, and five rebounds.
Breakaway play leads to altercations
The injury occurred near the end of the second quarter. Flagg appeared to be headed for a clear breakaway dunk when Indiana Pacers swingman Aaron Nesmith committed a hard foul from behind.
The contact knocked the Dallas star completely off balance. Flagg fell under the basket, landing awkwardly directly onto his left shoulder. He was seen continuously rubbing the sore area as he made his way off the floor and into the locker room prior to the halftime break.
Tensions boil over on the floor
The hard foul immediately sparked heated tempers between both teams. A brief shoving match broke out on the court near the basket, forcing coaches from both Dallas and Indiana to intervene and pull the players apart.
Following a review, officials assessed Aaron Nesmith with a flagrant foul for the hit on Flagg. In addition, the referees handed out a double technical foul to Nesmith and Dallas guard Naji Marshall for their involvement in the commotion after the play.
