Daniels Returns to Action
Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels will start Sunday in his return from an elbow injury. Daniels dislocated his left elbow last year. He will play with a brace on his non-throwing elbow for the rest of the season. Offensive coordinator David Blough said Daniels is full go and there will be no limitations with the game plan because of his elbow.
Daniels was a full participant all week in practice. Rookie Athan Kaliakmanis will backup Daniels. Washington could also sign Sam Hartman to the active roster off the practice squad and make him the emergency third quarterback.
Receiver Situation
While the quarterback is back, the Commanders will be minus one of their top receivers. Coach Dan Quinn said receiver Stefon Diggs won't play because of a hamstring injury suffered in a Week 4 loss to the Colts.
Diggs leads Washington with 18 catches for 170 yards and three touchdowns. He did not participate in practice all week. Quinn said receiver Terry McLaurin looked really good in practice Friday, but stopped short of saying he would definitely play. McLaurin missed the last game due to a hamstring injury.
Other Team News
The Commanders hold a 1-3 record and host the Giants, who sit at 3-1, in a key divisional game. Washington already stands at 0-2 in the NFC East.
Washington also gets back right guard Sam Cosmi, who missed two games with a concussion. Running back Rachaad White, who missed last season with a shoulder injury, returns to the mix as well.
