Another Setback for Pierce
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce is seeking a second opinion on his left heel injury. The injury knocked him out of Sunday night's loss against the Kansas City Chiefs. Pierce is currently considered week to week as the team monitors his progress.
This injury is a major concern because it is the same left heel that Pierce had surgically repaired back in March. X-rays taken after the game came back negative. Colts head coach Shane Steichen spoke on Monday and said that the team is still gathering information about the injury.
How the Injury Happened
Pierce is the top wide receiver for the Colts. He was unable to put any weight on his left leg during the game against the Chiefs. He needed assistance leaving the field with just 1:45 remaining in the first quarter. After a quick initial exam in the medical tent, Pierce had to be carted to the locker room for X-rays.
The receiver signed a big four year contract worth 114 million dollars in March. The Colts expected him to be a major centerpiece of their offense this season.

However, his recovery from the March surgery on his heel spilled into training camp. The recovery process also lingered past the preseason. Pierce finally returned to practice late last month. He was expecting to ramp up his playing time in the weeks to come after the team cleared him to play in Week 1.
With Pierce out of the game on Sunday, veteran receiver Laquon Treadwell took the majority of his snaps against the Chiefs. Treadwell finished the game with three catches for 61 yards. Treadwell will likely see more action if Pierce is sidelined for a longer period.
