Colts Star Alec Pierce Ruled Out With Heel Injury Against Chiefs

The Indianapolis Colts suffered a major setback during their Sunday night game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Star wide receiver Alec Pierce was ruled out of the game after suffering a left heel injury. The injury happened with 1:45 remaining in the first quarter of the match.

Pierce was unable to put any weight on his left leg. He needed help from the staff to get to the injury tent at Arrowhead Stadium. After an initial exam in the tent, he was carted to the locker room. The television broadcast reported that he was taken to the X ray room at the stadium. The Colts initially listed him as questionable to return but quickly downgraded him to out in the second quarter.

Ongoing Injury Struggles

This new injury is a massive concern because it is on the same leg that Pierce had surgery on in March. The wide receiver underwent ankle surgery earlier this year to address a lingering condition.

The surgery took place shortly after Pierce signed a four year contract worth 114 million dollars. He was expected to be a centerpiece of the offense this season. However, his recovery from the ankle procedure spilled into training camp and lasted past the preseason. He finally returned to practice late last month and was cleared to play in Week 1. The team was hoping to ramp up his playing time in the coming weeks, but this heel injury is a major disappointment.

Treadwell Steps In

With Pierce out of the game, the Colts had to find a replacement quickly. Veteran receiver Laquon Treadwell took over and played a majority of Pierce's snaps against the Chiefs. The team will now have to wait for the results of the X rays to see how long their top receiver will be sidelined.
