The Traffic Stop in Indiana
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. faces a misdemeanor charge for marijuana possession following a traffic stop earlier this month in Carmel, Indiana, court records show. An affidavit from the Hamilton County prosecutor's office states that a Carmel patrol officer pulled Richardson over on Oct. 12 over questions about his car registration. The officer observed the smell of marijuana in the car.
According to the affidavit, Richardson admitted to the officer that he had smoked marijuana in the vehicle to avoid smoking it at home around his children. Officers asked Richardson to exit the vehicle and detained him in handcuffs while they searched his Dodge Charger.
Search and Citations
Officers stated they found a small amount of marijuana and 500 milligram THC infused gummies in the glove compartment. Police confiscated the items from the vehicle.
Richardson ultimately was allowed to leave without being arrested, but he received a citation for an expired registration and a summons for possession of marijuana. The prosecutor office officially filed the charge on Monday, according to court records. The case is currently scheduled for a bench trial on Jan. 4.
Team Response
The Indianapolis Colts released a statement regarding the legal situation. The team said they are aware of the situation involving Anthony Richardson and are currently gathering additional information. They added they will have no further comment at this time.
