Colts Listening to Trade Offers for Daniel Jones
The Indianapolis Colts are open to trading quarterback Daniel Jones before Tuesday's trade deadline. Multiple teams have contacted the organization to ask about his availability, and Indianapolis is willing to hear what other franchises have to offer.
Jones is scheduled to start against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. However, the team has taken calls from interested clubs, including the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore inquired about Jones before they decided to complete a trade for Jacoby Brissett instead.
Financial Factors and Contract Details
The Minnesota Vikings have also been linked with Jones. He has history with the team, and Minnesota features a defense built for a postseason run.
Indianapolis wants to gain draft picks and manage future financial obligations. Jones signed a two year deal worth $88 million in March, which included a $44 million signing bonus. His contract contains a $10.51 million injury guarantee for the 2027 season that becomes fully guaranteed on March 15.
Playoff Position and Future Outlook
Indianapolis currently holds a 2-6 record. If the team drops out of playoff contention, management may decide to avoid risking that money if Jones gets hurt. Benching him later in the year remains a real option. Jones could also choose to waive the injury clause if he wants a fresh start with a new team.
Head coach Shane Steichen publicly backed his quarterback this week. He stated that "Daniel gives us the best chance to win right now." But his specific wording has left plenty of room for changes down the line.
Trade Deadline Approaching Fast
The trade deadline is set for Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET. Other teams facing quarterback injuries could quickly enter the picture before time runs out.
Recent injuries across the league show how quickly team needs can change. Last weekend, Baltimore lost both Lamar Jackson and Tyler "Snoop" Huntley to injuries, placing both players on injured reserve. The Colts also engaged in trade discussions regarding running back Jonathan Taylor. Indianapolis will continue listening to offers up until the deadline if the terms are fair.
