New contract extension
Cole Palmer has signed a contract extension to stay at Chelsea until 2034. The new deal adds one year to the contract he signed in August 2024, which previously ran until 2033. This continues Chelsea's pattern of long term deals, following recent extensions for João Pedro and Pedro Neto.
The 24 year old forward expressed his delight about staying at Stamford Bridge. He explained that conversations with the owners, sporting directors, and manager gave him confidence. He added that everyone at the club shares the same ambition to consistently win major trophies.
Form and fitness details
Palmer joined Chelsea from Manchester City in August 2023. He has been highly impressive, registering 91 goal contributions in 138 matches for the Blues. He has started the current season well, scoring four goals in seven appearances.
However, he dealt with a persistent groin problem last season and missed out on the World Cup. He was recently criticized by England head coach Thomas Tuchel after not making himself available for international duty as Chelsea managed his load. Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso stated on Friday that Palmer remains committed to England and needs to be fully fit to perform at his best for both club and country.
