Heavy Collision In The Fourth Quarter
The Chicago Bears secured a 30-24 win against the Patriots on Thursday night in Chicago, but the game ended on a worrying note for the home team. Tight end Cole Kmet was forced to leave the field on a cart after suffering an injury to his right knee during the fourth quarter.
The key moment took place with 5:46 left to play in the match. Kmet caught an 8 yard pass from quarterback Caleb Williams and began moving up the Bears sideline. As he pushed forward, Kmet lowered his body to prepare for contact with oncoming defenders.
Immediate Medical Attention
Kmet collided with Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez and linebacker Robert Spillane in a heavy hit. Upon hitting the turf, the tight end immediately grabbed his right knee while remaining on the ground.
Athletic trainers quickly came out onto the field to check on him. Kmet was able to get up to his feet with help from the medical staff, but he was then placed on a cart to be transported off the field.
Thumbs Up To The Crowd
As the cart drove Kmet towards the locker room, he gave a thumbs up gesture to the fans watching in the stadium. Despite that brief positive sign, he was quickly ruled out for the rest of the Thursday night game by team officials.
He ended the evening with three catches for 28 yards before the injury took him out of the action.
Key Figures In The Play
The play involved several notable players on both sides of the ball. Caleb Williams delivered the 8 yard throw that put Kmet into position along the sideline. Defenders Christian Gonzalez and Robert Spillane made the combined tackle that resulted in the collision.
Chicago held on to secure the 30-24 victory against the Patriots, but attention now turns to Kmet's condition after his early departure on the cart.
