Comeback Complete
The Cleveland Guardians had to work hard to advance in the postseason. After falling behind early in the series against the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland rattled off three consecutive wins to punch a ticket to the next round.
Saturday night brought the decisive Game 5. Starting pitcher Gavin Williams delivered a masterful outing on the mound, while Jose Ramirez provided the heroics with a go-ahead two-run home run in the fourth inning.
Social Media Jabs
Once the final out was recorded, Cleveland made sure to get in some extra jabs at their divisional rivals. The team remembered a moment from Game 3 when they were trailing the series 2-0 and working out at Chicago's stadium. Back then, the stadium speakers played the song End of The Road by Boyz II Men.
After completing the comeback, the Guardians social media account hit back. They posted that it was time to play Semisonic and their song Closing Time.
More Stadium Fun
The online trolling continued with a graphic of dirty socks in a laundry bin. The caption joked that they already got rid of some Sox and might need to toss the rest too.
Cleveland also added a Spirit Halloween banner to the Chicago ballpark and posted a video of a local train decorated with a stand guard message. Inside the clubhouse, players mocked a pregame ritual used by their opponents.
Next Up
Celebrations must end quickly because a new challenge awaits. Cleveland will now move on to face the Tampa Bay Rays.
A spot in the World Series is on the line in this next round. First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for Monday night at 8 p.m. ET.
