Back to the Wall

The Cleveland Guardians find themselves facing elimination once again. Following a 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday at home, Cleveland trails 3-2 in the best of seven American League Championship Series. There is no rest or travel day due to a previous rainout, meaning Game 6 takes place immediately on Monday night at Tropicana Field in Florida.

Manager Stephen Vogt remains confident despite the tight schedule and the deficit. Let us go, as they do not have another choice, Vogt said, adding that this is when his team thrives.

Road Warriors

Cleveland holds a 3-1 road record this postseason and went 47-38 away from home overall this year. Steven Kwan mentioned that knowing they can win on the road helps their mindset. Kwan had two hits and made a strong defensive play in Game 5, throwing out a runner at the plate and making a leaping catch at the center field wall to save a run.

History shows that teams trailing 3-2 in this series come back to win only seven of 23 times, but recent history offers encouragement. Texas accomplished the feat in 2023 and Toronto did the same last year.

Pitching Decisions

Manager Stephen Vogt faces a major question regarding his starting pitcher for Monday night. Foster Griffin is an option after working as a bulk reliever in Game 4, while Gavin Williams has been ruled out after starting Game 3 on Thursday.

Parker Messick struggled in Game 5, lasting only two innings. Messick has pitched 200 innings this year, becoming the first rookie to reach that mark since 2014. Despite the short outing, Messick stated that his body feels good and he is not experiencing fatigue.
