Gabriel Back on the Roster
The Cleveland Browns made an official roster move on Monday by activating quarterback Dillon Gabriel off injured reserve. This decision adds even more depth to the position, leaving the team with four total quarterbacks on their 53 man roster.
Gabriel had been out of action since late August. The franchise placed him on injured reserve because of a back injury right at the roster cutdown deadline. Gabriel took a major step toward his return when he was designated to return to practice on Oct. 6. He has now completed that process and officially rejoined the active group.
Gabriel's Stats as a Rookie
Gabriel originally entered the league as a third round pick in the 2025 draft. During his rookie season, he spent significant time on the field, appearing in ten career games and making six starts for the team.
Throughout those ten games as a rookie, Gabriel completed 110 of 185 passes for 937 yards. He also threw seven touchdown passes during that stretch. With his back injury now in the past, he brings more experience to the roster.
Cleveland Leads the Division
While Gabriel was working his way back from injured reserve, Deshaun Watson held the starting spot. Watson won the starting quarterback competition during training camp earlier in the year.
Watson has started all seven games for Cleveland so far this season. The team has performed well under his leadership, compiling a 5-2 record. That strong start has placed the Browns at the top of the AFC North division.
Four Passers on the Roster
With Gabriel back in action, the Cleveland roster features four distinct quarterbacks. Shedeur Sanders has served as the primary backup behind Watson through the first seven games.
Rookie Taylen Green has also been part of the game day plans. Green, a sixth round pick, has been working as the emergency quarterback on game days. Now that Gabriel is active, the Browns will carry Watson, Sanders, Green, and Gabriel together on the 53 man roster.
