Ownership Shakeup at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has welcomed a major change in the club's hierarchy. Former owners Todd Boehly and Mark Walter have sold their stakes in the London club. Both businessmen owned 12.83% of Chelsea.

Their shares have been bought by Clearlake Capital. The private equity firm previously held 61.5% of the club and now takes full control. Swiss philanthropist Hansjörg Wyss, who also owns a 12.83% stake, will stay on as a partner.

The consortium originally bought Chelsea in 2022 for £2.5 billion, with an extra £1.75 billion committed to future investment. The sale happened after former owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned due to alleged ties to Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Alonso Welcomes Clearlake Control

Manager Xabi Alonso spoke about the transition during a news conference on Thursday. He thanked the outgoing owners and described the change as an important day for the club.

Alonso explained that he has a very good relationship with Behdad Eghbali, who leads Clearlake Capital alongside Jose E. Feliciano. Eghbali was the one who travelled to Madrid to convince Alonso to join the Chelsea project.

Alonso said it is good that the main owner is now clear. He added that the first phase of the squad project is complete and the club must now move on together. When asked about competing for major titles, he said the club has the ambition and potential to get back to where they want to be.

Injury Updates Ahead of Friday Clash

Chelsea face Brentford on Friday, and Alonso gave an update on his squad. Forward João Pedro has withdrawn from the Brazil squad due to an injury.

Alonso did not give details about the nature of João Pedro's injury. However, he did not rule the forward out of the upcoming match. The manager stated that a final decision on all players will be made after the final training session.

In other news, Chelsea star Cole Palmer has been temporarily suspended from Twitch. This happened after he streamed the game EA FC 27 early.
