Big Wins Put Chicago on Top

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has stepped up big time. The Bears moved to 6-2 this season after a 34-17 win over Seattle. That victory came right after beating New England in Week 7. It marks the first time in franchise history that Chicago has beaten the defending champions and the runner up in back to back games.

The Bears have now won three straight games since Williams returned from a hamstring injury that kept him out from Week 3 to Week 5. Chicago has not trailed in any of those three matches, scoring over 30 points each time. They are now considered favorites to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LXI.

Beating the Defending Champions

In the win against Seattle, wide receiver Luther Burden III caught a 1 yard touchdown pass to cap off an opening drive lasting 8 minutes and 32 seconds. Burden told Williams on the sideline that he did not care about Seattle having the top defense, and Williams echoed that sentiment.

Williams threw for 247 yards in that game. He became the first quarterback to throw for more than 200 yards against Seattle in 2026. This season, he ranks second in completion percentage at 70.9% and fifth in yards per attempt at 8.0.

Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent noted that Williams is playing in a great rhythm and making quick decisions. Williams previously followed a slogan from his college days at USC, stating that decisiveness wins.

Smart Passing Drives the Offense

That quick thinking has helped the entire passing attack. Tight end Colston Loveland has 20 catches for 199 yards and two touchdowns in the last three games. Williams also completed 86% of his passes when not facing pressure this season, throwing zero interceptions on those 112 attempts.

The Bears have put together 21 drives of 10 or more plays this season. On their opening drive against Seattle, Williams led an 80 yard drive over 17 plays, using short throws to keep moving forward.

Williams explained that he has grown comfortable taking checkdown passes instead of forcing big plays. Offensive coordinator Press Taylor praised Williams for taking what the defense gives him and keeping the team on schedule. Up next is a Sunday night matchup against Tampa Bay, a defense allowing only 18.9 points per game.
