Heavy Blow for Oklahoma City
The Oklahoma City Thunder have taken another massive blow to their roster. Star power forward and center Chet Holmgren will miss eight to 10 weeks because of a patellar tendon tear in his right knee. The team officially confirmed the news on Friday night.
Holmgren experienced mild discomfort in his right knee on Sunday and met with specialists to get checked out. The team described the injury as a small tear. A decision was made to perform a biological treatment on Friday to address the issue.
Injury Troubles Keep Mounting
This is the third starter the Thunder have lost to a severe injury in a single week. Forward Jalen Williams and guard Cason Wallace both went down on Sunday during a game against the Clippers.
Williams suffered a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle. He had surgery on Wednesday. Wallace suffered a torn labrum and underwent surgery on Friday. According to the team, both players will be reevaluated before the end of the regular season.
Holmgren Hit by Bad Luck Again
Injuries have troubled the seven footer since he entered the league. Selected as the number two pick in the 2022 draft, Holmgren missed the entire 2022 2023 season after breaking his foot just weeks after draft night.
He also missed a few months of the 2024 2025 season because of a fractured pelvis. He eventually returned to play a key role in the championship run for Oklahoma City. Last season, Holmgren earned first team All Defensive and third team All NBA honors. He averaged 17.1 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game.
