Zakaria Issues Chelsea Warning
Monaco midfielder Denis Zakaria has advised his teammate Lamine Camara to forget about Chelsea. The Senegal international was the subject of a late transfer bid from the Premier League club, but Zakaria believes the 22 year old is in the right place.
Zakaria knows all about life at Stamford Bridge. He spent a forgettable loan spell there from Juventus during the 2022-23 season, making only seven Premier League appearances under three different managers as Chelsea finished 12th.
Following Monaco's recent 2-1 win over Lens, Zakaria shared the advice he gave to Camara. He told reporters that while Chelsea is a good club, it is better for Camara to stay at Monaco. He praised the midfielder's professional attitude and noted that the failed transfer seems to have made him even stronger.
Inside the Blocked Transfer
Chelsea had verbally agreed a £47 million deal for Camara in the final hours of the transfer window. However, Monaco pulled the plug at the last minute. The sudden change of heart left Chelsea officials furious, with one source describing Monaco's conduct as extraordinary and deeply unprofessional.
The collapsed deal has left Chelsea short of options in midfield. They sold Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City for £125 million on deadline day, and Moises Caicedo has played just 14 minutes this season due to injury.
Despite the drama, Camara has remained focused. The midfielder explained that while there was a real possibility of leaving, he has now turned the page and is fully concentrated on his season with Monaco.
Monaco Flying High in France
The decision to keep Camara is paying off for Monaco. Filipe Luis' side currently sits at the top of Ligue 1, holding a two point lead over Lyon and Paris FC.
Monaco have enjoyed an excellent start to their campaign, winning four of their opening five league matches. Their recent 2-1 victory over Lens kept them in first place, with Camara playing a starring role.
Filipe Luis, who won a Premier League title as a player with Chelsea back in 2015, has built a strong squad. With Camara performing at his best, Monaco look like genuine title contenders this season.
