Slater Heads to Injured Reserve

The Los Angeles Chargers are placing left tackle Rashawn Slater on injured reserve after successful ankle surgery. The team announced the news on Friday. Slater suffered a high right ankle sprain in the fourth quarter of the recent loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He will now miss at least four games.

This latest setback adds to a long list of injuries for the Chargers. Slater previously missed all of last season after rupturing a patellar tendon in his left knee during training camp. He signed a four year extension in July 2025.

A Depleted Offensive Line

The Chargers face a tough challenge with three of their starting offensive linemen dealing with injuries. Joe Alt is managing a neck issue, and left guard Kayode Awosika is out with a fibula injury. Trey Pipkins III is already on injured reserve, and Trevor Penning is in concussion protocol.

More players missed practice this week, including safety Derwin James Jr., cornerback Donte Jackson, and wide receiver Ladd McConkey. The team might need to start four rookies on the offensive line against the Broncos, repeating a configuration they used in the final snaps against Seattle.
