Harbaugh Keeps Faith

The Los Angeles Chargers will stick with offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel as their playcaller. Coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed the decision on Wednesday after the team completed a self-scouting review during their bye week.

Before the Week 7 break, the Chargers suffered a 22-6 defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs. That loss dropped the team to 0-6 for the season and made them the last winless side in the league.

Offensive Struggles

Against the Chiefs, the Chargers put up a season-low six points and managed just 259 total yards. Their points-per-game average dropped to 15.0, which is the worst mark in the league.

McDaniel joined the organization in the offseason to improve an offense that scored only one touchdown across two playoff losses under Harbaugh. McDaniel previously spent four seasons as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins before his departure in January.

Justin Herbert Under Pressure

Quarterback Justin Herbert has struggled heavily this season under the new offensive setup. He is tied for the league lead with eight interceptions, throwing picks directly to defenders in recent weeks.

During the offseason, McDaniel worked with Herbert to change his shotgun stance by moving his left foot in front of his right. Despite the adjustments and McDaniel's past reputation for building high-scoring offenses in Miami, the results have not followed on the pitch.
