A massive match at home
Como coach Cesc Fabregas is ready for a dream come true opportunity. His team will host Manchester United in a Champions League group game on Wednesday.
Speaking after a 3-1 win at Fiorentina on Sunday, Fabregas shared his thoughts on the upcoming fixture. That victory kept Como fifth in the Serie A standings.
From lower divisions to Europe
The former Arsenal star noted that just three years ago, when Como played in Serie B, hosting Manchester United at the Sinigaglia stadium seemed impossible. The club has a 119-year history and spent time in Serie D in 2019 after facing two bankruptcies in two decades.
Como returned to the top flight in May 2024 after three promotions in six seasons. Fabregas mentioned that playing in the Champions League is an extraordinary gift arriving five years ahead of schedule.
Balancing domestic and European duties
Fabregas reminded everyone that Serie A remains the most important competition for the club. Como won their Champions League opener 4-1 against Leipzig at home, but lost 3-2 away to Feyenoord last week.
The Spanish coach stated that the team is learning quickly and must manage many situations carefully because they started from scratch three years ago.
