A long opening speech
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick started his news conference on Friday with a speech that lasted more than five minutes. He tried to rally his players ahead of the Premier League match against Bournemouth on Sunday.
Carrick is battling to save his job after a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League earlier in the week. Amid doubts about his future, the 45 year old sat down at Carrington and delivered an impassioned monologue about the need for hard work.
Standards and responsibility
During his speech, Carrick highlighted the need for everyone at the club to be humble and work hard. He warned his players that they must return to the standards set by famous club servants like Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Matt Busby, Sir Bobby Charlton, Ryan Giggs, and Wayne Rooney.
Carrick stated his responsibility is to get a team on the pitch that represents the football club and supporters. He admitted the team has lost its way recently, but he remains completely confident they will get it back.
Backing himself
When asked if everyone at the club shares his feelings, Carrick answered affirmatively and said that unity and togetherness must be there. He stated that if people do not feel that way, Old Trafford is not the place for them.
With his job potentially on the line when Bournemouth visit, Carrick was asked directly if he still believes he is the right man to turn things around. He answered with a firm one hundred percent yes.
