The pressure builds at United

Michael Carrick insists his future as Manchester United head coach is not important ahead of their upcoming fixture. United head to Elland Road on Sunday with Carrick under pressure following a run of five games without a win.

Another poor result will ramp up the questions about his suitability for the role. However, Carrick insists his own job prospects are the last thing on his mind. He told a news conference on Friday that he does not think about how he will survive or look after himself because it is not important.

Handling the off-field noise

Carrick has also had to deal with extra fallout this week. Lisandro Martinez made explosive criticism of director of football Jason Wilcox.

Carrick also had to diffuse controversy stirred up by Nicky Butt. The former England midfielder claimed Carrick told him management was not for him before taking the United job in January, something Carrick quickly denied.

Enjoying the challenge

Carrick stated that he definitely would not be at the club if those claims were true. He called it the best role he could possibly have and feels a real privilege being in the position.

He added that if you are not ready for difficult situations, you are never going to be great. He wants to make a difference and have success at the club.
