Carragher Wants Long Penalties

Jamie Carragher believes that Manchester City should face a multi-year punishment for financial misdemeanours. An independent commission found City guilty of breaking Premier League rules in a strongly worded report released last week. The club have appealed against the verdict.

City were found to have inflated revenue by more than £830 million over a nine-season period between 2009-10 and 2017-18. If the appeal fails, Carragher wants sanctions that last longer than a single campaign.

The View On Points Deductions

Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate with Sky Bet, the 48-year-old explained his thoughts on short penalties. He noted that an 80 point or 100 point penalty only lasts for one season, which might just get them relegated before they return right away.

He added that players might put up with that for a single year. Because the issues went on for so long, he thinks the punishment should span three to five years so that players would move on.

Preparation For Anfield

City return to action this weekend when they take on Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday. Former City defender and manager Stuart Pearce spoke about the upcoming trip to Anfield, noting the hostile atmosphere waiting for them.

Pearce believes the red hot environment will stimulate everyone else against City, and it has to stimulate City against everyone else as well.
