Legette Sidelined with Knee Injury
The Carolina Panthers have dealt with another major injury setback. Rookie wide receiver Xavier Legette has been placed on injured reserve on Saturday. This decision means he will miss at least the next three games because of a knee injury.
Legette sustained the injury during Carolina's Week 2 victory against the Atlanta Falcons. He already missed one match before this roster move. Now, the team will have to cope without their 2024 first round pick for a longer period.
Receiver Depth and Lineup Changes
With Legette out, the Panthers have major questions in their receiving group. Leading wide receiver Jalen Coker is listed as questionable with a quad injury. To help fill the gap, the team promoted Ja'seem Reed from the practice squad.
Head coach Dave Canales commented on how they will manage the situation. "Well, Ja'seem will come up and help," Canales said on Friday. He added that John Metchie III has practiced and is ready to step in if Coker cannot play. Other receivers available for the game include Tetairoa McMillan, Brycen Tremayne, and David Moore.
There is some positive news for the offensive line. Right tackle Monroe Freeling has cleared concussion protocol and will start. However, starting left guard Damien Lewis is out with an elbow injury.
Defensive Woes Ahead of Bye Week
The defensive backfield is also facing serious issues. Cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson are both out with injuries. In their place, Will Lee III and Akayleb Evans are expected to start. The team has promoted veteran cornerback Robert Rochell from the practice squad to provide extra depth.
Carolina has a long list of players on injured reserve before their Week 5 bye. This list includes outside linebacker Nic Scourton, running back Jonathon Brooks, and guard Brady Christensen. Starting tackles Ickey Ekwonu and Taylor Moton are also unavailable on other injury lists.
