Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was highly emotional after his team's 41-31 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night. The All-Pro defender fought back tears in the locker room at the new Highmark Stadium, taking full responsibility for the poor defensive showing.

Campbell finished the game with six tackles and one quarterback hit, but he felt he did not do enough. He admitted that the performance was terrible and said it started with him. He refused to blame the coaches, the short week, or any other factors for the loss. He vowed to look in the mirror and be better for his teammates.

Defensive struggles continue

The Lions defense has now allowed at least 30 points in back-to-back games, leaving them with a 1-1 record this season. This is the first time since 2021, the start of coach Dan Campbell's tenure, that Detroit has allowed 30 or more points in their first two regular-season games.

The secondary had a difficult night trying to stop Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who accounted for five touchdowns. Detroit has allowed 63 first downs so far this season. This is tied with the 1985 Colts for the second-most first downs allowed through two games in league history.

Edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson, who recorded three tackles, a sack, and two quarterback hits, agreed that the performance was not good enough. He promised that changes would be made to fix the defensive issues.

Coach Campbell demands better

Detroit fell behind 21-0 early in the first half and trailed 27-10 at halftime. Coach Dan Campbell was furious as he entered the locker room, saying on television that small mistakes were hurting the team.

After the game, the coach acknowledged that the display was not good enough but noted that the team now knows what they need to work on. The Lions will look to bounce back in their next game.
