Williams Status Uncertain
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is officially listed as questionable on the final injury report ahead of the Week 6 game at the Atlanta Falcons. Williams was a full participant during the Wednesday walk-through and the practice sessions on Thursday and Friday. The quarterback stated that he had to go through a bunch of medical protocols before being cleared by team trainers. That clearance could happen before the team leaves for Atlanta.
Bears coach Ben Johnson spoke about the quarterback on Friday. Johnson said he is hopeful they will have more clarity at the end of the day. He noted that Williams looked good on Thursday for one practice, but they need to stack a few back to back. Williams missed three straight games while recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during the fourth quarter of a Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Other Team Injuries
While the quarterback works toward a return, the Bears will be without running back Kyle Monangai for a second straight game. Monangai did not practice this week while recovering from thumb and toe injuries. He visited a specialist for the toe injury last week. Johnson explained that it was not one of those things they felt like they needed to put him on injured reserve for, so it remains week to week while he trends in the right direction.
Chicago will also be down three starters on defense for the matchup. Defensive end Montez Sweat faces a two-game suspension for violating the performance enhancing drug policy. Injuries are also sidelining linebacker T.J. Edwards with a hamstring issue and Dayo Odeyingbo with a quad injury.
