Back to practice

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams reached another milestone in his recovery from a hamstring injury when he logged full participation in practice for the first time since September 18. The quarterback has been listed as a full participant on the team injury report for two consecutive days, including a walk-through. However, Williams made clear that his status for the upcoming game at Atlanta has not been decided.

Before starting to ask questions, Williams told reporters he does not know if he is playing yet. He explained that he still has to go through medical protocols, get out on the field, and complete stress tests required when trying to come back from a serious injury. Williams has missed Chicago's last three games while recovering from the issue sustained late in the fourth quarter of a 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Feeling the pop

Speaking for the first time about the injury, Williams admitted he feared the worst when his right leg gave out while running toward the end zone with 7:42 to play against Minnesota. He felt a pop and looked back, thinking someone had grabbed him, but no one was there.

Williams stated that he has undergone five to six hours of daily treatment on his hamstring. He estimates he was back on the field throwing about a week and a half or two weeks after the injury. While he did not place a percentage on his current leg strength, he confirmed he can move, run, and hit high speeds. He added that he will not hesitate to run if needed during a game, provided the muscle fibers connect properly to handle a full 60 minutes.

Dealing with the emotional fallout

Williams also addressed the social media criticism he received after leaving the Vikings game on a cart with a towel over his head. After removing the towel to give the crowd a thumbs up, his face was red from crying. He explained that he always shows emotion because he deeply cares about the team, the organization, winning, and his teammates.

He stated that football is everything to him, and being unable to play was frustrating. The Bears face a busy stretch with games against the Atlanta Falcons on October 18 and the New England Patriots the following Thursday. Williams remains focused on putting himself in position to play against Atlanta rather than worrying about the tight turnaround.
