Heavy Fines for Chicago Bears Quarterback

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is facing another financial penalty from the NFL. The league fined Williams $23,882 for wearing Caddix cleats during his team match in Week 7. This penalty is double the initial fine of $11,941 that he received for wearing the exact same footwear in Week 6.

The NFL maintains strict uniform guidelines. The league only permits visible logos from three official sponsor brands, which are Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour. If a player chooses to wear shoes made by a different company, the rule states that the brand logo must be completely covered. Williams wore the Caddix shoes without hiding the logo, resulting in the repeated penalties.

Quarterback Refuses to Change His Cleats

Despite the growing fines, Williams does not plan to cover or black out the Caddix logo when Chicago plays the Seattle Seahawks on Monday. He has already filed an appeal for the fine issued in Week 6. The footwear company has promised to cover the cost if his appeal gets rejected.

Caddix founder Jack Rasmussen said in a statement that the company product is one of the safest pairs of cleats a player can wear on the field. Rasmussen noted that he is happy to pay the fine for the quarterback regardless of the league uniform policy.

Safety and Performance on the Field

Williams missed Weeks 3 through 5 due to a hamstring injury. He came back to action against the Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots. In those games, he became the first Chicago Bears quarterback since Mitchell Trubisky in 2018 to record back to back 300 yard passing games.

Founded in 2015, Caddix uses special technology designed to flex during cuts and movement, reducing pressure on feet, knees, and ankles. About 40 NFL players currently wear these cleats. Williams explained that his decision comes down to staying healthy and taking care of his body over a long season. He stated that his joints and feet feel much better in these shoes compared to other pairs he has worn previously.
