A unique first for Calafiori
Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori has claimed a unique piece of football history following his goal against Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. James Justin opened the scoring for Leeds, but Calafiori brought Arsenal level with his first half strike. He accomplished this feat while wearing special edition David Beckham predator boots. Adidas created the footwear to celebrate twenty five years since Beckham scored his famous free kick against Greece, which sent England to the 2002 World Cup.
Calafiori is not only the first professional player to wear the boots in a match, but he is also the first to score a goal wearing them. Adidas co designed the release with Beckham. Sam Handy, who is the General Manager of Adidas Football, stated that few moments capture the spirit of the predator quite like Beckham's goal against Greece.
Arsenal bounce back
The Gunners needed a response after falling behind early in the match. Following Calafiori's equaliser, Bruno Guimaraes scored Arsenal's second goal of the afternoon. The home side completed the comeback to secure the three points, returning to winning ways after the long international break.
