Quiet Start in Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Lakers have used Bronny James sparingly during their 7-2 start to the season. The guard has averaged just 2.4 minutes and 0.8 points per game in five appearances for the main squad.
The parent club has performed well overall, joining the Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets at the top of the Western Conference standings in the early weeks of the campaign.
Stronger Numbers in Development
James has performed better in the developmental G League over recent seasons. He has averaged 18.4 points on 49.6 percent shooting, which includes 41.3 percent from three point range, along with 4.4 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 25 games over the last two seasons.
The team was previously known as the South Bay Lakers before being rebranded and relocated for the current season.
New Arena and Coaching Staff
The relocated squad now plays its home games at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, moving away from the Lakers practice facility in El Segundo. Coachella Valley opens its season on Friday at home against the Salt Lake City Stars.
Along with the new venue, the team enters the season with a new head coach. Alex Cerda was named as the successor to Zack Guthrie after Guthrie joined coach JJ Redick staff with the Los Angeles Lakers. Lakers rookie Cameron Carr was also assigned to Coachella Valley on Thursday alongside James.
