Ground game and defense lead Denver
The Denver Broncos ground out a 17-14 overtime victory against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night. Coach Sean Payton took back playcalling duties and relied on a heavy run game to help quarterback Bo Nix. The Broncos ran the ball 26 times compared to 27 pass attempts before Wil Lutz kicked the game-winning field goal. Denver led 14-3 at halftime, and Payton has now won 40 consecutive games when holding a double-digit lead at halftime.
Despite missing All-Pro Pat Surtain II and safety Talanoa Hufanga in the secondary, the Denver defense kept up its pressure. The unit recorded five sacks for the second consecutive game and sealed the win with an overtime interception from Ja'Quan McMillian. The victory brings Denver to a 4-2 record after facing a tough opening stretch of games.
Seattle struggles continue
The Seattle Seahawks are facing serious trouble after another rough offensive showing. Sam Darnold was sacked five times and turned the ball over three times, including interceptions in the fourth quarter and in overtime. Seattle managed just 184 yards through the first three quarters and wasted a strong performance by the defense.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba led the receiving group with 12 catches for 134 yards, tying Tyler Lockett for the most career games with at least 10 catches and 100 receiving yards in franchise history. Rashid Shaheed and Cooper Kupp also topped 50 receiving yards. However, the offense could not overcome its flaws, dropping Seattle to a 3-3 record.
