A Historic Night at Old Trafford
Brighton achieved a historic comeback in the Carabao Cup against Manchester United. The Seagulls came from two goals down to secure a 3-2 victory at Old Trafford. Substitute Maxim De Cuyper scored the winning goal to complete the turnaround.
This win made Brighton the first team since 1976 to win at Old Trafford after trailing by two goals. It was a deserved result for the away side, but manager Fabian Hurzeler is making sure his team does not get carried away.
Hurzeler Demands Focus and Humility
Hurzeler explained that belief was the main reason behind the cup comeback. However, he wants his players to remain grounded as they prepare for their next match at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.
The Brighton manager said that they have to stay very humble and understand why they are in this position. He wants his players to focus on doing the basic things right and managing the small margins. Hurzeler added that they cannot take these results for granted and must prepare for another round of hard work. He believes that if they do the basics, they can grow into the game.
Pressure Mounts on United
While Brighton celebrated, the defeat has put Manchester United manager Michael Carrick under pressure. It is the first time Carrick has faced this level of scrutiny since taking charge.
United squandered a two goal lead, which led to their exit from the competition. Carrick took responsibility for the defeat, saying that his team cannot accept the way they performed. Brighton now march on to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
