A Historic Return

The Milwaukee Brewers are heading to the World Series for the first time since 1982. The big series begins on Friday when the Brewers host the Tampa Bay Rays for Game 1.

This milestone comes less than two years after legendary broadcaster Bob Uecker passed away on January 16, 2025, at the age of 90.

Family Statement

Uecker called Brewers games for 54 years. He worked through the 2023 and 2024 seasons while dealing with small cell lung cancer.

In a statement released by the team on Wednesday, Uecker's family shared their thoughts. They stated that some moments are worth waiting for, and that generations of fans held hope for another championship chance.

Missing a Legend

The family mentioned a longing and a wish that Bob was here to see the team reach the World Series. They added that the city, the team, and the fans meant everything to him.

Uecker is honored with statues outside American Family Field and in the upper level behind home plate. A massive mural of him also stands in downtown Milwaukee.

Gratitude and Tributes

Uecker's family thanked the players, principal owner Mark Attanasio, and manager Pat Murphy. They also thanked the fans for keeping Bob's spirit alive and the broadcast team for honoring him.

When the Brewers clinched the pennant against the Los Angeles Dodgers, radio broadcaster Jeff Levering paid homage to Uecker. Levering echoed a famous line from the movie Major League, which starred Uecker as broadcaster Harry Doyle.
