Late Drama in the Ninth Inning

Trevor Megill managed to escape a tight situation in the ninth inning to help the Milwaukee Brewers secure a 3-2 victory against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night. The win gave Milwaukee the opening match of the World Series.

The final moment came when Megill struck out Jonny DeLuca while Tampa Bay had runners on second and third base. Right before that strikeout, Liam Hicks hit a ball that initially looked like a game-ending double play. However, the call was overturned following a replay review.

The review revealed that Brewers shortstop Cooper Pratt had his right foot slightly off the bag when he took the throw from second baseman Brice Turang. That decision gave the Rays another chance, but Megill struck out DeLuca to seal the win for the home team.

Early Lead Holds Strong

Milwaukee got off to a quick start in front of a sellout crowd. It was the city's first World Series match since 1982. Christian Yelich sparked a two-run rally in the first inning with an RBI triple. That early push put the Brewers ahead for the rest of the game.

Pitcher Jacob Misiorowski earned the win after allowing just one run over five innings. On offense, Jackson Chourio and William Contreras led the way with two hits each. Contreras also made a big impact defensively by throwing out two potential base stealers during the game.

Historic World Series Matchup

This series is a rare occasion in baseball history. It is the first time since 1980 that a World Series features two teams searching for their first ever championship. Back in 1980, the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Kansas City Royals in six games.

The Rays and Brewers are among a small group of franchises looking for their maiden title. The only other major league teams without a World Series trophy are the Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres, and Seattle Mariners.

Winning this first game could be a huge factor for Milwaukee. History shows that the team taking Game 1 goes on to win the World Series 62.8 percent of the time.
