All Eyes on Atlanta and Philly
The MLB wild card round is almost over, but one massive battle remains. While the Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees, and San Diego Padres all swept their series in two games, the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies are going the distance. Their NL East series is locked at 1-1, making Thursday's Game 3 a winner takes all clash.
This is the only game left on Day 3 of the wild card round. After a dramatic Game 2 that went to extra innings, fans are in for a massive night of baseball. Both teams have shown they can win under pressure, and everything is on the line.
Philly's Championship Pedigree
The Phillies enter this deciding game with plenty of belief. Their core players have been in this position before. Star hitter Bryce Harper has played 40 playoff games in Philadelphia, giving the team valuable experience in high pressure situations.
The buzz in the Philadelphia locker room after Game 2 showed a team full of confidence. The Phillies also have the starting pitching advantage for Game 3. Their bats are hot too, as the middle of their lineup all hit home runs during their Game 2 comeback victory. They will look to keep that momentum going.
Braves Look to Lineup Power
Atlanta might have to rely heavily on their bullpen for this final game. Grant Holmes is the likely starter, meaning the Braves will need their hitters to step up. Getting a third straight starting pitching performance of six or more innings might be too much to ask.
Fortunately, the Atlanta lineup is full of talent. They will face Aaron Nola, who has been more hittable this season than pitchers like Cristopher Sanchez and Jesus Luzardo. The Braves will hope for some of the home cooked, late game magic that helped them win Game 1.
