Bohm Tenth Inning Home Run Keeps Phillies Postseason Alive Against Braves

Bohm and Painter save the day

Alec Bohm hit a two out home run in the 10th inning to help the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves 4-3 on Wednesday. The victory ties the National League Wild Card series at 1-1 and forces a final game.

Bohm hit his 357 foot shot to right field off Didier Fuentes. The game ended in dramatic fashion when pitcher Andrew Painter used a successful robo ump challenge to strike out Dominic Smith with two runners on base. It was the first time a postseason game has ended with a strike zone appeal. Painter pitched three scoreless innings to get the win.

Harper redeems himself after costly error

The Phillies had to fight back after falling behind in the seventh inning. Atlanta took a 3-1 lead after Drake Baldwin's double bounced off Bryce Harper's glove, allowing Sean Murphy to score. Matt Olson then added a sacrifice fly.

Speaking about the missed catch, Harper said, "Probably should have been caught, obviously."

Harper made up for his mistake in the eighth inning. After Kyle Schwarber hit a 447 foot home run off Dylan Lee, Harper followed immediately with a 418 foot home run to tie the game at 3-3.

Pitching battles and injuries

Cristopher Sanchez started for the Phillies and threw a career high 116 pitches, allowing three runs in six and two thirds innings. Tyler Mahle started for Atlanta and allowed just one run on six hits across seven innings.

The Phillies did suffer an injury concern during the game. Edmundo Sosa had to leave the match in the ninth inning after reaching on an infield single. Sosa appeared to aggravate a leg injury and Derek Hill came on as a pinch runner.
