Injury Concerns and Practice Status
The Buffalo Bills are preparing for Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens with several key players listed as questionable. Coach Joe Brady is not ruling anyone out yet, even though multiple players missed practices this week.
The team's injury report includes receiver DJ Moore with a shoulder issue, right tackle Spencer Brown with a back problem, and nickel Dee Alford with an ankle injury. Brown missed all practices this week, while Alford missed practice on Thursday and Friday. Moore took part in all three sessions while wearing a noncontact jersey.
Slot Complications and Defensive Adjustments
Alford's potential absence creates extra complications because safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson is serving a one-game suspension for a spitting incident in Week 6 against the Las Vegas Raiders. When Alford was hurt earlier in the year, Damar Hamlin stepped into that spot.
With Hamlin starting for Gardner-Johnson on Sunday, the plan at nickel remains open. Coach Brady noted that they have many possibilities to consider. The Ravens use star receiver Zay Flowers in the slot for more than half of his snaps. To handle this, the Bills could use cornerback Christian Benford in the slot, or move outside cornerbacks like Maxwell Hairston inside.
Updates on Brown and Moore
Spencer Brown shared that he took enough medication to sedate a small elephant to play against the Raiders. The subsequent bye week caused his back issues and the effects of playing in Week 6 to catch up with him. Brown stated this week that he can be ready whenever needed.
DJ Moore has not played since Week 4. He mentioned earlier in the week that the time away helped him and put him in the best spot for the team. In addition, tight end Dalton Kincaid and defensive lineman Greg Gaines are also listed as questionable. Kincaid practiced in a noncontact jersey, and Gaines picked up an injury during Friday's practice.
