A Panic Move After a Big Win
Chicago recently dismantled the Philadelphia Eagles 27-7 on Monday Night Football. Third-string quarterback Case Keenum played in place of an injured Caleb Williams. As head coach Ben Johnson walked toward his waiting players in the locker room at Soldier Field, he faced a split-second decision.
The forty-year-old coach usually maintains a stoic demeanor during games. This time, he completely lost his composure in the best way possible. Johnson wound up his right arm, crossed it over his chest, and lunged forward to wobble his left knee back and forth.
His spur-of-the-moment celebration sent the players into a frenzy. Johnson later admitted that he did not know what to do when his team waited for him, calling the action a panic move.
High School Memories and Grooves
The dance move is a version of the Stanky Legg, which was popularized by the GS Boyz in 2008. Johnson remembered his teammates performing the routine back in high school during the 2000s.
The core of the movement involves shifting weight to one leg while extending the other. The dancer then rolls the extended leg in a loose circular motion and leans back. Johnson grinned widely as he leaned into his own personal rendition while players laughed and cheered.
Right tackle Darnell Wright noted that the coach is improving week to week. Wright encouraged Johnson to just keep at it.
A New Staple for the Season
During his first season in Chicago, Johnson also brought back a Good, Better, Best chant from his own high school days. Now, his unique dancing has joined that chant as a regular postgame tradition after victories.
After taking down the Patriots, Caleb Williams and several teammates mimicked the coach's routine. When Chicago later beat the Seahawks in Seattle, Johnson even added a stutter-step before launching into the motion.
Players now eagerly await the choreography because it signifies another win. Wide receiver Rome Odunze shared that seeing Ben do his dance after the match makes everyone happy, promising more to come.
