Injury Confirmed After Win

Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet is out for the remainder of the 2026 season. Coach Ben Johnson shared the news on Friday after medical tests confirmed a serious right knee injury. Kmet could not bear weight on his leg following the incident in a 30-24 victory against New England.

The injury happened late in the fourth quarter. Kmet caught an 8-yard pass from Caleb Williams and collided near the sideline with Patriots players Christian Gonzalez and Robert Spillane. Medical staff carted him off the field to the locker room while teammates and opponents gathered around to offer support.

A Big Loss For Chicago

Kmet has been a reliable presence for the team since joining in 2020. He has missed only one game over seven NFL seasons. Just days prior to the injury, he reached a major milestone by passing 3,000 career receiving yards.

Coach Johnson spoke about the heavy impact of losing such a trusted player. He mentioned that Kmet serves as a major glue guy who helps gauge the pulse of the team and handles important messaging.

Moving Forward Without Kmet

The Bears use multiple tight end formations very often. Johnson stated that the team plans to stick to its usual offensive identity despite the setback.

Colston Loveland and rookie Sam Roush are next in line to take over snaps. Other names on the depth chart include Stephen Carlson, Qadir Ismail, and Hayden Large, who can return from injured reserve.
