Swift addresses early fumbles
Chicago Bears running back D'Andre Swift responded to questions on Thursday about his early season fumbles. The running back has fumbled twice in four games. His most recent fumble happened in the third quarter of a win over the Jets when linebacker Jamien Sherwood knocked the ball loose. New York recovered the fumble and kicked a field goal.
Coach Ben Johnson called the turnover egregious and noted that the ball got away from the body. Swift spent the rest of the game on the sideline while Kyle Monangai took over with a career-high 30 carries for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Swift understood the consequences and stated that he cannot put the team down like that.
Injury updates and strong rushing stats
Swift returned to practice on Thursday in a limited capacity after missing Wednesday with knee and hip injuries. Meanwhile, Monangai missed his second straight practice due to a thumb injury and a turf toe issue. Despite these setbacks, both players rank near the top in rushing through four games and power the league's top rushing offense.
The Bears average a league-high 196 rushing yards per game. Their next opponent, the Green Bay Packers, allows 139.3 rushing yards per game. Swift matches his fumble total from the previous year, including a red zone fumble against Minnesota, but insists the problem is finished. The team runs extra ball security drills this week to help him keep the ball high and tight.
