A Historic Day for NFL Offenses

The first Sunday of the NFL season brought an incredible wave of scoring. Ten different teams scored 30 or more points. This is the first time so many teams reached that mark on opening Sunday since 2002. It is only the third time it has happened since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970.

The Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, and Jacksonville Jaguars led the way. They scored a combined 170 points in their opening games. Other teams like the Minnesota Vikings scored 39 points in a comeback win over the Green Bay Packers. The Vikings scored four straight touchdowns in the second half to win. Even in defeat, the Carolina Panthers scored 37 points and the Houston Texans managed 31 points.

Chicago Bears Set Franchise Record

The Chicago Bears put on the biggest show of the day. They beat the Carolina Panthers 59-37. This was the highest-scoring game in the 105-year history of the Bears franchise. The Bears scored 59 points on offense without a single catch from tight end Colston Loveland.

Chicago dominated on the ground with 291 rushing yards on 39 carries. They averaged 7.5 yards per carry. This was a massive change from last year, when the team struggled to make big plays on the ground. D'Andre Swift scored on a 28-yard run and had a 32-yard run. Caleb Williams ran for a 29-yard touchdown, and Kyle Monangai broke free for a 61-yard score.

Williams also looked sharp through the air. The young quarterback threw an accurate touchdown pass to tight end Cole Kmet and set up big gains for Kalif Raymond. The Panthers defense could not find any answers.
