Kompany faces fitness battle ahead of Arsenal clash
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is doubtful for Wednesday's Champions League home game against Arsenal due to a viral infection affecting his legs. Assistant coach Aaron Danks spoke to the media on Tuesday because Kompany spent the day resting at home.
Danks explained that the coach might need three more days to recover fully. He noted that the virus has affected Kompany's legs at times and caused pain. Getting him to rest is apparently quite a challenge for the club staff.
Recent struggles and squad updates
During Bayern's 6-1 win over Leipzig in the Bundesliga on Saturday, Kompany remained seated and subdued. Sporting director Max Eberl mentioned that the coach had been struggling with both the virus and a hip injury.
If Kompany cannot attend the upcoming match, the team has a backup plan. Danks stated that Bayern previously worked on remote communication last season when Kompany was suspended.
Squad issues do not stop with the manager. Midfielder Joshua Kimmich was away for personal reasons on Tuesday, and his involvement remains uncertain. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has returned to training. However, Neuer is still a doubt after missing the last two games with a foot issue.
