FA Cup Fever Hits Brentwood
Seventh tier Brentwood Town are preparing for a massive FA Cup third qualifying round match against Dagenham and Redbridge. The BBC will broadcast the game, which brings together two very different clubs.
Veteran sports promoter Barry Hearn invested in Brentwood Town this summer. He is excited for the match, especially with Dagenham coming to town. Dagenham boast YouTuber KSI as a shareholder and have former England forward Andy Carroll in their squad.
Brentwood usually play in front of an average crowd of about 750 fans. Hearn believes this match will put the club on the map.
A Warning for KSI
Hearn was born in Dagenham and wishes KSI the best with his involvement in the National League South club. However, the former Leyton Orient chairman has some realistic advice for the internet star.
Hearn warned that football is a flawed business. He said that it will cost KSI money and that he will get abuse. Despite this, Hearn believes football offers unique rewards.
Hearn said that KSI will get one or two memories that will repay him back the rest of his life. He wants to see KSI follow his dream and his love for the game, even if it is expensive.
Unforgettable Memories
Hearn has spent a lifetime in sports promotion, working in boxing, darts, and snooker. Yet, he says that at least five of his top ten life memories are related to football.
One of his greatest days was in 2011, when Leyton Orient equalised against Arsenal in the FA Cup. He believes the cup has no barriers, allowing small clubs to dream big.
He hopes that the match on Saturday will create a memory that the local kids and fans will never forget. Whether it is Manchester City or Brentwood Town, the FA Cup is about creating moments that stay with people forever.
