Yamal reacts to Ballon d'Or result
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick stated that Lamine Yamal reacted like a champion after missing out on the Ballon d'Or award. The prize was handed out at a gala held at the London Palladium last Monday.
Yamal finished third behind winner Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé. Flick mentioned that Kane also deserved to win the prize and added that Yamal is on the level to win it in the future.
Kopa Trophy success and team praise
Yamal did not leave empty handed as he took home the Kopa Trophy for the third consecutive year. This award goes to the best male player under the age of 21.
After accepting the award, Yamal stated that his Barcelona teammate Pau Cubarsí deserved the prize more than him. Flick praised these words from Yamal and agreed that Cubarsí deserved recognition after an incredible season and excellent World Cup.
Defensive injuries and Alavés match
Barcelona are preparing to host Alavés at Spotify Camp Nou this weekend after recent league defeats. Flick expressed concern over injuries piling up in defence, with Jules Koundé, Xavi Espart, Eric García, Andreas Christensen, and Dani Olmo all out.
Flick confirmed that solutions could include playing young midfielder Brian Fariñas at full-back or Frenkie de Jong at centre-back. The club might also look at the transfer market in January.
Fan section closure announcement
Barcelona confirmed that a chanting section behind one of the goals at Camp Nou with capacity for almost 2,000 fans will be closed against Alavés. The decision follows disciplinary proceedings due to offensive chants and objects thrown during the recent match against Real Madrid.
The club hopes the section can reopen for the Champions League match against Aston Villa after discussions with fan groups.
