Major blow for Ravens defense

The Baltimore Ravens will play without their top pass rusher, Trey Hendrickson, in this Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans. The outside linebacker recently had surgery on his right hand to repair a broken finger.

Hendrickson broke his finger during the opening game of the season. He managed to play through the injury for two weeks with tape on his hand, but the team decided it was time to address the issue.

Ravens coach Jesse Minter explained the decision after practice on Friday. "We were able to get the finger fixed," Minter said. He added that they expect it to be a very short term absence, which is the best approach for the team in the long run.

Finding a replacement

Losing Hendrickson is a significant setback for Baltimore. The 31 year old defender signed a four year, 112 million dollar contract as the team's top free agent signing this offseason. He has been incredibly consistent, registering 40 sacks since the start of the 2023 season, which ranks fourth in the NFL.

With Hendrickson sidelined, the Ravens will turn to Mike Green to step up. The second round draft pick from last year has one sack and two quarterback hits so far. Undrafted rookie Ethan Burke is also expected to get his first defensive snaps of the season.

There is some better news on offense. Starting left tackle Ronnie Stanley missed practice on Friday with a toe injury, but coach Minter remains hopeful that he will play on Sunday.
